Be it ever so humble….

Well, it’s been about five weeks since the last post.  As you might have suspected, I’ve moved into my new place.  It wasn’t the beginning of the end, but the end of the beginning.  But the hard stuff has been taken care of.

The past five weeks have been a blur of activity.  There was last minute painting of the bedrooms.  Finishing up the tiles and back splash in the kitchen.  Installing the sinks in the bathroom.  Putting pull handles on the cabinets.  A whole host of little things to finish things off to make the house a home that I can live in.  The contractor finished up, with two more tiny items on the punch list.

Of course, there were still reminders of the tragic mess that I initially bought.  Before I moved in, I had the exterminators come in for the final round of bed bug treatment.  I hope that is the FINAL round.  I also had an HVAC company come in to clean out the ducts.

What was lurking in my ducts.
What was lurking in my ducts.

The ducts were chock full of dust, dead bugs, and lord knows what else.  After the HVAC guy was done, I took a peak at what he picked up.  It practically filled the machine!  Based on the amount of stuff that was picked up, he thinks that it was probably at least 20 years since the ducts have been cleaned.  And this job was in his top ten worst ones.

I got all of my stuff moved in from storage and started the unpacking process.  It’s been tough because I went from a single family house to a townhouse.  Trying to through out stuff is like trying to erase memories.  This whole downsizing task has been rough.  I can’t seem to throw away tee shirts over 20 years old…..

So what do I got left to do?  Well, there’s lots of painting to be done.  The living room and staircase area are on the agenda.  I need to install doors to the bedrooms.  Replace the stairs to the basement.  Put up drywall in the basement.  Then I may be almost finished.  It was been a long road to where I am now.  I’m living among boxes.  I have my evil cat back.  I got a lot of work left to do. But at least I’m living someplace that is now my home.
