Week 1: IT HAS BEGUN!

Almost as if I’m coming out of one dream to another, the renovation of my fixer upper started in earnest this week. Despite the delay from the freak March snowstorm, the contractors have started some of the interior demolition.

They took out the dry wall, cabinets, and stove from the kitchen and the toilet and vanity from the bathroom.  This was to make way for the asbestos remediation. They also cleaned up some of the stuff that I wasn’t able to remove from the living room ceiling.

I did a walk through with the asbestos remediation company before they started their work.  They pointed out some new asbestos insulation on the ducts that were exposed when more demolition was done.  Since the ducts were located in walls that were meant to be demolished anyway, they simply removed the whole duct, which made the enterprise a little bit easier (and cheaper).

A godsend!

After the remediation was taken care of, the contractors finished out removing the tiles and tub in the bathroom.  In the interim, I also got rid of that incontinent dog smell using  Nature’s Miracle.  And yes, it was.

But it wasn’t all about the odious work of combating pet odor.  I also got to order my appliances!  The refrigerator, washer / dryer, dish washer and gas range are now on order and should be delivered the first weekend of April.  What got me stoked is that there was a bit of a sale at Best Buy, so this will be significantly less than the MSRP.  So needless to say, I’m quite excited about all this.  As they say, this is the beginning of the end, for at least a majority of the work being envisioned.
